BLACKSMITHING CRAFT CAMP

October 22-24
Cost: £185 adults, £40 1st child, £25 every extra child

In this practical hands-on workshop you will be able to recreate ancient technologies - building your own pit forge & general forge work eg. charcoal making & fire-lighting skills using your own hand-forged flint & steel set. The forges are based on those dating back as far as the second millennium BC, but they are no less effective than a fully equipped modern smithy.  You will be able to choose different items to make, such as candlesticks, toasting forks and even a rudimentary knife. Best of all, you will learn the principles and practice of blacksmithing with a master craftsman.

The course fee includes all equipment. Evening meals are provided as well as a simple breakfast, but you will need to bring food for your own lunches.

Event Leader - Bernard Graves
Bernard Graves has been teaching crafts for over 20 years, in a variety of community and educational settings. Most recently he was a founding member of the Hiram Trust and has been influential in the development of Ruskin Mill in Gloucestershire. Bernard is one of the most exceptional teachers you are ever likely to encounter, and here at WildWise, we reckon the nearest you’ll get to meeting Gandalf, such is his capacity for wizardry!

Location: This camp will take place at a beautiful location in south Devon.
