Bushcraft and survival have become particularly
synonymous in recent times and for those new to the subject,
the distinctions and terminology can be confusing. Although
a sound knowledge of bushcraft will equip the individual to
cope with, or perhaps more importantly avoid a survival situation,
this subject reaches far beyond the realms of survival, teaching
how to read and utilise the natural world in a way that can
only add to the outdoors experience.
The Course
This course is aimed at developing the skills necessary to
feel at home in the great outdoors, and discovering some
new ones. Becoming proficient with these skills takes time,
energy and practice and for this reason we are not intent
on giving you a hard time or making you suffer. It is our
firm belief that acquiring these skills to a proper level
is impossible unless the student is warm, comfortable and
well fed. The final course content is subject to the interests
of the group but is likely to include most of the following:
Advanced fire-craft including fire-by-friction
Finding and making water safe
Woodcraft
Wild edible and medicinal plants
Aidless navigation techniques
Cordage
Tool use and maintenance
Campfire cookery
The course fee of £195 includes evening meals and all
equipment except tents. 2-3 person tents are available for
hire at £5/tent per night.
Evening meals and teas and coffee are included, but you will
need to bring your own breakfasts and lunches. Cooking utensils,
big pots and pans will be provided and there is a large campfire,
plus a small gas stove for back up.
The course will take place at a wildwood location near Moretonhampstead,
Dartmoor, Devon. |
