Time-travel back a few thousand years to
learn some of the skills that our prehistoric ancestors would
have used to help them flourish and thrive in ancient Britain.
The ancient art of making tools and weapons from naturally
found flint (flint knapping) has been around for about 4 millions
years, and was used by our ancestors for many purposes – including
the making of arrow heads, hand-axes and knives.
Come and get a taste of the past learning the relevant skills
to make your own flint knife. We will also practise some hunting
techniques, such as using a sling-shot and spear-throwing with
atlatls, and some home-crafts such as cordage and fire-making.
Location – This weekend camp will take
place at our beautiful woodland site near Moretonhampstead,
on the edge of Dartmoor, in Devon.
Cost - £185 adults, kids come free! (£150 if booked
with Family Camp)
The course fee includes all equipment. Evening meals are also
provided, but you will need to bring your own breakfasts and
lunches. Cooking utensils, pots and pans will be provided and
there is a large campfire, plus a small gas stove for back
up.
Event Leader – Allan Course has been working with the
ancient art of flintknapping and other prehistoric crafts for
over thirty years. He regularly does exhibitions and demonstrations
for archaeological organisations and museums including the
British Museum and has appeared on television several times
making and using flint tools for the BBC and ITV. He
has passed on his skills in working with flint to many others,
aiming to help people understand and appreciate the lives of
our prehistoric ancestors.
